Swymnuts Lucas Valley

At Swymnuts Lucas Valley our lead coaches are Buffy Patterson, Marlon Woolf, and Cokie Lepinski along with our other coaches Susie Powell, Nicole Coll and Shari Cruse. We are located at the Lucas Valley HOA Pool at 1201 Idylberry Rd, San Rafael, CA. (Cross street is Mt. Shasta.) That is about 2.1 miles west of Highway 101 in Marin County. Take the Smith Ranch or Lucas Valley Road exit an head west, turning right on Mt. Shasta Drive and left on Idylberry Rd.

To swim with us at Lucas Valley, you must be able to swim 25 yards (1 length of the pool) freestyle without stopping. If you aren’t quite to that level yet, we offer swim lessons which will get you to that level. Information on swim lessons can be found here.

We have a very nice 6-lane, 25 yard pool and a loose knit and friendly group of swimmers to greet you. Come see us!

We offer 9 workout opportunities each week. Our practice schedule:

5:30-6:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday

8:15-9:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday

Saturday mornings: 7:00-8:30 a.m.

Be sure and check our Calendar tab for any changes to our Workout Calendar. On occasion we may not hold a workout and if that happens you’ll see this on our Calendar tab or in the listings of our Week of Workouts and Workout Calendar under the Swim Workouts tab.

You will need to be registered with United States Masters Swimming (USMS) to swim with us. You can do so using the Join/Renew USMS link in the right column of every page on this Swymnut website. USMS membership is required for our insurance coverage. If you have never been a USMS member before and wish to try us out, you may do so with this USMS 30-Day Trial Form. Complete it, sign it, and bring it to your first workout. After the 30-day period, you will be required to join USMS in order to continuing swimming with us. If you have been a member of USMS in the past, sorry, but you’ll need to rejoin USMS in order to swim with us.

See the Fees tab for our most updated fee schedule for Lucas Valley. Please note: For 2016 the Lucas Valley Homeowner’s Association has dropped the $50 fee non LVHA swimmers had to pay annually to use the pool. Thank you LVHA, we are so grateful!

Those who swim with us at Lucas Valley can also swim with us at Indian Valley! If you have a punch card or are paying monthly dues at Lucas Valley or IVC, you can swim the other pool at no additional charge. Please note this does not apply to our JCC location. You will need a separate punch card purchased at the JCC to swim there.

Come take the plunge with us. You won’t regret it, and we are all pretty sure you will become addicted to the camaraderie and fitness you’ll get from swimming. We have! It is a wonderful sport that we all hope to do for life.

  1. Hi,
Just relocated to Pacheco Valley and am interested in trying out the group.
Is the Lucas Valley pool open year round ?

  2. Hi,
I am new to swimming, but wanting some formal coaching while I train for my first tri. Do you think this would be a good option for me? If so, do you allow drop-ins?
    Thanks, Heather

  3. Hi,

I have been wanting to give this a try for awhile. Can I just drop in to try? I swim on a regular basis when our neighborhood pool is open, but miss it now! I’d be coming for the early workouts at Lucas Valley.

    Thank you!
