Our Swymnuts are off to a great start in competition for 2017. We’ve already had our swimmers at several meets so far and they are looking good!

Santa Rosa Meet

On January 21st we had 6 Swymnuts compete in the Santa Rosa meet and they even did a relay together! Hiroe Bell, Diana Peroni, Mimi Willard, Tyler Hummel, Jane Mothersill and Anice Flesh were our NUT competitors at Santa Rosa. The first meet of the year is always the tough one as you are trying to reawaken the “competitor gene” and shake off racing cobwebs. These NUTS were terrific! Jane and Anice both moved into new age groups, and both set new team records in all their swims. Tyler smashed his 100 free team record and got a best in his 50 free in an individual event. He also established a new lifetime best in his 100 IM. Diana Peroni set a new lifetime best and team record in the 200 free and was solid in her 50 fly and 200 IM. Hiroe raced with very good times in all her events and Mimi tackled the tough 200 events (especially tough at that meet with not much rest). Super proud of you all gang – great job! Full meet results are here.

TOC Mile (1500)

Also in January was the 1500 race that is held by The Olympic Club held on Jan 28th. This is the only event of that meet and the meet is held in a 25m length pool. Diana Peroni and Mimi Willard swam the mile and both did very well with Diana breaking a team record and lifetime best time. Sweet! Full meet results here.

USF Meet

The USF meet was February 4th and 4 lady Swymnuts came and left their mark! Brand new to our team (and I think to Masters competition) was Susan Santiago in the 65-69 age group. Seems we’ve found another fast backstroker on our team! She swam the 50 and 100 back, the 50 free and the 100 free, setting team records in all four swims. After doing an individual 50 back with a time of 44.35, she led off our 200 medley relay with a stunning 43.15 which broke her own brand new team record. 🙂 Mimi Willard, Jane Mothersill and Diana Peroni followed her with great swims in that relay and the ladies set a new team record for the relay. Jane and Mimi are now in the same age group so they not only practice together, but compete together. Jane set new personal bests in all her swims with the move to the new age group. Looks like we are going to have a good 60+ relay possibility – just have to get one more of our other ladies to come out (Susie Powell??, Mary Piel??, anyone else??). Full meet results here.

Richmond Splash & Dash Meet

Also held in February on Feb 11th was a new sprint meet in Richmond. The “Splash & Dash” meet was attended by Anice Flesh, Hiroe Bell and Jane Mothersill. All three swam the same five events: 50s of each stroke and 100 IM. Anice swept all 5 of her events setting new team records in each event! Hiroe and Jane were top 3 in all five of their events with Jane also nailing a new team record in the 100 IM. Nice! Full results here.

The City Mile (1650)

Mimi Willard was our lone participant at the City Mile meet on Feb 26th. She set a new personal best and national qualifying time bettering her old time by 8 seconds. Very good pacing on this race for Mimi who is now only 2 seconds away from breaking Susie’s team record! Full results here.

Rinconada Meet

Next up was our meet in Rinconada (Palo Alto) on March 11th. We had Hiroe, Mimi, Jane, Tyler, Maynard, Cassandra and Diana at this meet. It was Maynard’s first ever meet where he took a first in the Novice 50 Free division. Way to go Maynard! Here’s a picture of him with his ribbon and off the blocks (where he looked like a pro). We were blessed with great weather (not a given at this location) and had a terrific time cheering each other on. Full results here.

Let’s keep the momentum going! For upcoming meets, visit our page on competitions here.

Every year Sac Masters hosts a terrific sprint meet – the Sprint Pentathlon which involves swimming a 50 of each stroke and a 100 IM. There isn’t a whole lot of rest in between. You basically race, warm down, and have about 10-15 minutes max before your next swim. But they do have a lovely hot tub right behind the starting blocks, so we hang out there to keep warm between the swims.

There were just two of us at the meet this year, but we sure had a good time and good swims! This was the debut meet for Stephen Shoup and he was terrific setting team records in two of his three swims. Way to go Stephen!

We had a blast at this year’s Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Champs in Walnut Creek. The weather was hot (mid to high 80s), the water was cold and we were pretty darned good! We took a team of 10 with all 10 swimming Saturday and only 3 of us swimming Sunday. Despite a smaller turnout and only 39 races, we were stellar with the women placing 5th out of 34 teams.

Our swimmers set 20 new personal best times (the fastest swim in their current age group); 14 lifetime bests (in Masters swimming); and 17 new team records! One special note is on our Women’s 400 Free Relay where we absolutely crushed the existing team record by over 19 seconds. That relay was Chris Carrade, Cassandra Coffee, Cokie Lepinski and Margaret De Somma.

Congratulations to all our swimmers. Your hard work in the pool pays off. And thank you to all of our coaches for working with these swimmers, tweaking those strokes, pushing them on the sprints, all of it!

Anice Flesh was the sole participant in the Wine Country Senior Games on June 18th up in Santa Rosa. How’d she do? Well, 3 for 3 in first places on her races making “National Qualifying Times” in all 3 events. Way to go Anice! Her times are here.

Next up we had 5 Swymnuts participate in the Pac Masters Long Course Masters Championships held in San Mateo. They did pretty darned amazing! Jack Naylor swam the maximum 7 events and scored high point in his age group! Our women’s relay took second. Cool! And with a might team of 5 with most only competing on one day of this 3-day meet, they managed to get 7th out of 53 small teams. Wow! Lots of new personal bests, lifetime bests and team records by the gang. Great job team! Times and results for the swimmers are here.

The final summer meet was the Davis Long Course Meters meet where three Swymnuts participated: Anice, Jack and Mimi. All did very well with Jack setting three more team records and improving times from the Champs meet and Anice taking first in all five of her events. She’s in a new age group and setting new team records and even a few lifetime bests.

Here is the write up on that meet.

We eagerly await the short course meters season which starts with the Mountain View Meet September 18th!

One lone Swymnut went out to the USMS Spring Nationals held in Greensboro, NC April 28 to May 1, 2016. It isn’t easy being the lone representative for your team, but Mimi reached out, made friends with some other stragglers from California and ended up having a very good time. Her breaststroke was exceptional and she achieved new lifetime bests as well as team records in those swims (100 & 200 Breaststroke). Despite stiff competition, she was in the Top 15 in 4 of her 6 events. We are proud of you Mimi!

Too long in getting our official team results up from our Pacific Masters Champs held April 8-10 in Moraga. We braved rain, wind, grey skies and cold temps and still had a heck of a time! Kudos to all the great swims by all of our swimmers.

Here are some pictures of our Swymnuts in action at Champs. Be sure and see the embeddedPDF here with the official results. Wow, we had a ton of new team records set along with some lifetime best swims and National Qualifying Times. Great meet for a great team!

Three brave ladies competed in the Rinconada Meet in Palo Alto today. Weather was not optimum (cold, windy) so the muscles really never warm up. Despite that, there gals did great with a couple of personal bests in their age group, lifetime bests as a Masters swimmer, a couple of National Qualifying Times and even two more team records! Thanks for representing Jane, Erica and Mimi!

Three Swymnuts attended the CAL Aquatic Masters short course yards meet on March 7th at U.C. Berkeley. Jane came away with two lifetime bests and just missed a National Qualifying Time in her 50 Breast (NQT is 42.44), and Erica had a personal best in her current age group for the 200 IM (not something she swims often – great work Erica!). Another nice meet for our lady NUTS
