Our Swymnuts are off to a great start in competition for 2017. We’ve already had our swimmers at several meets so far and they are looking good!
Santa Rosa Meet
On January 21st we had 6 Swymnuts compete in the Santa Rosa meet and they even did a relay together! Hiroe Bell, Diana Peroni, Mimi Willard, Tyler Hummel, Jane Mothersill and Anice Flesh were our NUT competitors at Santa Rosa. The first meet of the year is always the tough one as you are trying to reawaken the “competitor gene” and shake off racing cobwebs. These NUTS were terrific! Jane and Anice both moved into new age groups, and both set new team records in all their swims. Tyler smashed his 100 free team record and got a best in his 50 free in an individual event. He also established a new lifetime best in his 100 IM. Diana Peroni set a new lifetime best and team record in the 200 free and was solid in her 50 fly and 200 IM. Hiroe raced with very good times in all her events and Mimi tackled the tough 200 events (especially tough at that meet with not much rest). Super proud of you all gang – great job! Full meet results are here.
TOC Mile (1500)
Also in January was the 1500 race that is held by The Olympic Club held on Jan 28th. This is the only event of that meet and the meet is held in a 25m length pool. Diana Peroni and Mimi Willard swam the mile and both did very well with Diana breaking a team record and lifetime best time. Sweet! Full meet results here.
The USF meet was February 4th and 4 lady Swymnuts came and left their mark! Brand new to our team (and I think to Masters competition) was Susan Santiago in the 65-69 age group. Seems we’ve found another fast backstroker on our team! She swam the 50 and 100 back, the 50 free and the 100 free, setting team records in all four swims. After doing an individual 50 back with a time of 44.35, she led off our 200 medley relay with a stunning 43.15 which broke her own brand new team record. 🙂 Mimi Willard, Jane Mothersill and Diana Peroni followed her with great swims in that relay and the ladies set a new team record for the relay. Jane and Mimi are now in the same age group so they not only practice together, but compete together. Jane set new personal bests in all her swims with the move to the new age group. Looks like we are going to have a good 60+ relay possibility – just have to get one more of our other ladies to come out (Susie Powell??, Mary Piel??, anyone else??). Full meet results here.
Richmond Splash & Dash Meet
Also held in February on Feb 11th was a new sprint meet in Richmond. The “Splash & Dash” meet was attended by Anice Flesh, Hiroe Bell and Jane Mothersill. All three swam the same five events: 50s of each stroke and 100 IM. Anice swept all 5 of her events setting new team records in each event! Hiroe and Jane were top 3 in all five of their events with Jane also nailing a new team record in the 100 IM. Nice! Full results here.
The City Mile (1650)
Mimi Willard was our lone participant at the City Mile meet on Feb 26th. She set a new personal best and national qualifying time bettering her old time by 8 seconds. Very good pacing on this race for Mimi who is now only 2 seconds away from breaking Susie’s team record! Full results here.
Next up was our meet in Rinconada (Palo Alto) on March 11th. We had Hiroe, Mimi, Jane, Tyler, Maynard, Cassandra and Diana at this meet. It was Maynard’s first ever meet where he took a first in the Novice 50 Free division. Way to go Maynard! Here’s a picture of him with his ribbon and off the blocks (where he looked like a pro). We were blessed with great weather (not a given at this location) and had a terrific time cheering each other on. Full results here.
